On the day of the star festival Peach invites Mario to her castle to have some cake. On the way there Mario finds a baby luma laying on the ground. the luma seems to like mario and jumps in his hat giving him the power to star spin. when mario gets to Toad Town he sees a giant Bowser attacking the castle. Bowser explains that he used the power stars to turn himself giant. Bowser kidnaps Peach and takes her to the center of the universe.
Mario heads to the castle where he finds two lumas. When the two lumas see the baby luma come out of Mario's hat he gains the two lumas trust. The two lumas decide to help Mario find power stars, and one of them turn into a launch star. The launch star sends Mario to the Sky Station Galaxy. After Mario finds one power star he flies to Star Ship Mario, where he meets Lubba and the other characters.
In his adventure, Mario must collect as much power stars as he can, so Star Ship Mario can proceed through 6 different worlds before saving Peach.
